Bowls

Novice Championships

On Sunday 24th November, the round robin stage of the Novice Singles club championships were held.

There were many great matches played, with several being decided on the last bowl of the last end.  After a total of 16 matches, the grand finalists for the men and women were decided.

Congratulations to Phil Gray on going through undefeated.  He will be playing Wayne Taylor who finished second in the group, narrowly edging out Geoff Gilsenan.

In the ladies event, Dot Tamburrini won all her matches and will play Lynette Taylor who finished second in the group.

Many thanks to all the competitors for the great spirit all games were played in.

As has been the case in previous years, both finals were played on “Grand Final” night, Wednesday 11th December @ 6pm, alongside the Men’s and Ladies Singles Championships.

In the Men’s event Phil started strongly but Wayne gradually pegged him back and went on to become the Novice Champion for 2019.

Meanwhile Lynette and Dot were showing why they deserved to be in the final with an exhibition of fine bowling. Holding a 19-13 lead it appeared that Dot was going to go through the event unbeaten, but Lynette had other ideas and staged a comeback to take a narrow win.
